How I plan a year of Thursdays

Every January I spend one afternoon planning the whole year. It sounds rigid. In practice it is the thing that lets me be spontaneous the rest of the time.
The rules
One theme per month, four issues per theme, and every fifth Thursday is left open for whatever the replies have been asking about.
A calendar is a promise you make to your future self when you still have energy.
The empty slots
Two issues a quarter stay blank on purpose. They absorb the weeks when life happens, and they are where the best surprises have come from.
